WordPress Website Security – Blacklisting

I wanted to share with you a recent real life situation with one of our strategic website partners. When we decide to partner up with a new business by designing, developing, and deploying a WordPress website, one of the ongoing monthly services we provide is website security.

As professional web developers, our job is to give our clients the best possible guidance – ALL THE TIME. Website security should be a no brainer. Nonetheless, it is up to us to educate the small business owner so THEY can make an informed decision about what direction they want to take with their business. Our job is to put them in the position to win on the web. A winning strategy on the web MUST include a plan for website protection.

Recently, I received a notification from one of my partner’s website. The notification was suggesting there was Malware on the site. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the website DID NOT have malware.

Malware is when a hacker injects malicious code into your website. Then that code, if undetected, can adversely affect anyone who visits your site.

Instead of Malware, the notification was that the website was “Blacklisted”.

Read More HERE about what do if your website is Blacklisted.

So this was good news/bad news. The good     news was that there was no malware which   meant our security protocols we working   correctly. The “bad“ news was the blacklisting of   the domain name. Sometimes when these   scans occur, there can be a false-positive read. I was confident that site would be removed from the “blacklisting” status since we develop in WordPress with excellent website architecture, (read Google Crawl), provide valuable content, and have security and back up in place.

I followed their request for an email from the website administrator (West Bay Media Group) and fulfilled any requests they required. Once this was done correctly, the site was removed off the list immediately.

Blacklisting is a service provided by Google and other entities to “clean up“ the web and provide a valuable end user experience. These type of technical adjustments can be challenging for the average website/business owner. That is why West Bay Media Group exists. We are here to help the small business owner do what they do best – run their business. If you have any questions, or would like us to take a look at your website, contact us anytime.

Thank you for reading and best of luck on running a successful website!

5 Reasons to Own a WordPress Site (for small business owners)

As a small business owner, you are aware that it is imperative to own a website. The challenge is finding the right company or person to partner up with to help you implement your business strategies on the web. Oftentimes, what is lost in the building and maintaining of your website is the PURPOSE of your website.

responsive WordPress website is the perfect solution for any small business owner who is looking to grow sales.

Here’s Why…

Number One is Self-Ownership. It is very important that the business owner be in control of his or her web presence. By relying primarily on third-party marketing platforms such as Facebook, business owners leave themselves vulnerable to the changes of the algorithm of that third-party vendor. By retaining control of your website you can immediately respond to your customers questions, wants, or needs in real-time fashion. Also, by controlling the message you release through your website, you increase your chances of visibility on the web.

Secondly, a WordPress website is User-Friendly. This means that the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) allows you to post content very quickly, informing your customers about the   changes happening in your business. Style changes may be   accomplished   easily, and you can even provide offers, amongst  other great features WordPress has to offer, to your end-users in a very timely fashion.

Thirdly, a responsive WordPress website is SEO FriendlySearch engine optimization is a key component to your website being found on the web. WordPress has a decade of proof demonstrating that the   major search engines can crawl over this open-source platform relatively easily and read the content that you created. This dramatically improves your visibility.

The fourth reason to have a WordPress website is Scalability, a very important, often overlooked feature of a website, or even a business. If you desire to scale your business, then it is a must for your website to scale with you; therefore, your website should be robust–one that is strong enough to handle upgrades and changes not only to the website, but to the web overall.

The fifth and final reason to own a WordPress website for the small business owner is that the WordPress open-source platform is ever-evolving. Open-source means that many web developers and designers contribute their expertise to creating an environment that is conducive for relaying information through the web. Thus, as this web endeavor continues to grow, more and more web developers are dedicated to continuously improving the WordPress user-friendly platform and the already easy-to-use interfaces. For example, it is easier to integrate software programs such as Email Marketing and E-Commerce with WordPress.

BlogBlast – Send Valuable Content to Your Social Media Accounts

One of the biggest challenges for the small business owner is

creating content for their business/website.

Let’s face it – not many business owners are publishers so writing content is not their natural inclination. The problem then becomes not posting content to their website or social media. Unfortunately, this turns into a lost opportunity of missing out on a cost-effective marketing tool that could bring qualified leads to their business.

By putting out valuable content on your website for products and/or services being offered, you are exposing to the digital world that you are an expert and are open for business. One of the ways we help our Strategic Partners is by deploying the Blog inside of their custom responsive WordPress website.

This allows us to effectively post updated relevant content to their website.

This provides two benefits:

The first is the content lives on the website thereby allowing the customer to see and read it and know that you are serious about your business.

The second reason is that it is the kind of website Google favors in their search algorythim.
